《 Ukulele - CP2 - Cell Binding 》

◆ Routing Front and Back edges of the Body

The binding will add artistic element and workmanship as well.
Rout the ledge on both front and back edges of the body to accept bindings.
Planned dimension of ledge will be 2.8mm x 3mm of depth.

Dremel router equiped with StewMc's router guide would be the best tool for this job.

PIC shows the ledges of the body almost completed.
As routing requires some practices and experiences try test cutting using scrap materials in advance.

Routing should start from neck side of topboard that would be covered with fingerboard later on.
Routing backboard is a bit difficult rather than topboard due to its round shape.

◆ Gluing Cell Bindings

Use Acetone(Plastic Solvent) for gluing.

Binding should be started from heelend position. Glue 5 to 8cm at a time then apply masking tape at least every 20 to 40mm.

◆ Scraping Bindings

There should be small differences between the binding and edge of body.
So smooth out the diffrences with a scraper.

After scraping, smooth binding with #120 to 240 grit paper.

◆ Tailend Purfling

Tailend where two end of the sides meet should be covered with purfle in view of good appearance.
