◆ Levelling Frets

For levelling the frets, peghead, topboard will be protected except fret and bridge.
Level the top of the fret using sanding block with #240 grit paper untill all frets are even height. Check frequently with the scale as guide if there is no space left between the scale and the fret top.
Beyond the position of 12th fret the fretboard slightly slants downward, so leveling beyong that position will be done separately.

Smooth out the file marks using #240 and #320 grit paper.

Then take #400 to #1500 to get rid of the marks completely.

Compound wax for metal can be used for final polish.

Those frets polished with compound are shining.

◆ Nut Slotting

Roughly determine the height of the nut.

Draw a pencil line with keeping 3mm of height.

Cut the nut along the pencil line using a file.

Note) 1st & 2nd fret should be protected with masking tape.

Trim the nut with #320 & #600 grit paper and compound wax for polish.

Mark the position of the string slots using StewMc's nut spacing ruler.

Secure 3mm of margin from each edge and make a shallow cut of string slots. Final slotting including the width and the depth will be done when fitting strings.

This is final slotting.

Each slot should be cut to depth leaving 0.5mm of gap between the top of the 1st fret and string while pressing the string on the 2nd fret.

◆ Adjusting Saddle Height

Remove the masking tape on the saddle groove.

Set the saddle on the groove of the bridge.

Remove all the traces of the coat.

Before fitting strings, determine the height of the saddle,

Check the gap between the top of the 12th fret and the string.

Adjust the height of the saddle until the gap on the 12th fret becomes 3.00mm that will be a suitable height.

After fitting strings, once again adjust the height of the saddle. In adjusting the bottom of the saddle should be evenly sanded.

◆ Installing Tuning Peg

  Now install the tuning machine.
Remove the remains of lacquer first using the reamer, not to ream too much.
  Bushes are well fitted.
  Finally strings were fitted.

Serial # has been punched.
