◆ Neck Cutting & Heel Blocks

 

Neck blank and neck template for cutting.

Neck material is Mahogany, 50mm wide.

  A piece of block is added to shape the heelend.
PIC shows heelend being glued and cramped.
  Face-side of the neck should be defined as standard side where centerline of neck, heelend line square to topside are decided.
 

Carefully sand neck heel end to be exatly squre with face-side of the neck using disc sander.

◆ Neck Cutting & Attach Headstock Ear

 

Cut excess wood in the heel area and volute area where the nut is placed, using belt sander.

  Attach wood blocks called ears to the side of peghead to extend the plate.

◆ Truss Rod

 

5mm in diameter of steel shaft is used for truss rod.
Make a groove of 8mm in depth on face side of the neck. Glue a rod into the groove and cover it with wood piece.

 

Sand the face of the neck after groove is covered. Once again draw a centerline of the neck, and the place where the nut is located including the outline of the neck shape.

◆ Trimming the Neck

  Cut the taper in the neck along the outline scribed on a face-side of the neck.
Make sure to keep a slight margin outside the outline at this stage.
  Trim off excess wood on the neck using belt sander. PIC shows nut area and peghead plate are belt-sanded.
  Filing up and down the neck, to form heel end, from neck area to peghead area.

◆ Heel Cap

  Heelcap made of evony are fitted to the heel.
